Music Ministry
Notes
Music is a very
important component of worship at First Presbyterian Church. An ongoing
element is the Chancel Choir. We also have a children’s handbell choir.
Throughout the year, we enhance our music ministry with instrumental
presentations and guest soloists. We also present special music for
Easter and Christmas. We want to extend an invitation for anyone to
come and be a part of our choir program.

Worship Committee
Purpose
To plan, organize, administrate, implement,
evaluate, and make recommendations to session on all matters relating
to the public worship of God when such are not specifically reserved by
our constitution as the special preserve of the ministers of the Word
and Sacrament. In the conduct and manner of all our services of
worship, the committee is to be informed by and in conformance with the
standards and norms set forth in the PCUSA Book of Order and Directory
of Worship.
Background
For many years, the worship committee served
mainly as a pulpit supply vehicle whenever a minister of our local
church was not available. Recently, with the encouragement and support
of our pastors, the worship committee has given its own input on the
content and direction of the worship experience.
The work of the committee includes:
·
All matters relating to the style, order, times, and the
frequency of all public worship services.
·
The style, order, times, frequency, preparation, and
serving of the Holy Communion.
·
The ordering of Baptisms.
·
The oversight of sanctuary fixtures, furnishings, and
decorations.
·
The ministry of music for services.
·
Oversight of all personnel who serve in worship except
the ministers of Word and sacrament.
·
Purchase, maintenance, and storage of musical
instruments, choir robes, sheet music, etc.
·
Recruiting and scheduling guest preachers.
·
Oversight of all broadcasts of our services
